The steel and concrete composite slab, also known as the steel deck formwork, is one in which the concrete, together with the steel formwork, functions structurally. Typically with thicknesses ranging between 0.65 mm, 0.80 mm, and 1.25 mm, it acts as the tensile reinforcement of the slab.

In the final phase, before the concrete reaches 75% of the required compressive strength, the steel formwork independently resists permanent actions and the overload of the construction.

Therefore, the ribbed slab is a system that stands out for being practical, economical, and rationalizing not only raw materials but also labor. In summary, it is more competitive in structures with medium to high spans, ensuring faster execution and reducing the total weight of the structure.

Tuper Ribbed Composite Slabs

The Tuper Ribbed Composite Slab system is basically composed of galvanized high-performance structural steel joists, filling elements, distribution reinforcement, and in-situ cast concrete.

It offers advantages such as strength, convenience, agility in the assembly process, savings in the use of shoring, and reduced labor in the execution timelines of the structural phase.

About Tuper’s metal joists

The joists are manufactured with ZAR 345 structural steel sheets by the hot-dip galvanizing process. The thicknesses are 0.65 mm, 0.80 mm, and 1.25 mm, provided with a Z275 coating (275 g/m² coating deposited on both sides) that meets the requirements of NBR 7800 (zinc-coated steel sheets and coils).

During the assembly and concreting period, they act as metal formwork, resisting their own weight and working loads.

After curing, the metal joists incorporate into the concrete due to the protrusions (dimples) they contain, increasing the longitudinal shear strength at the interface of the materials and, ultimately, forming a composite system that often eliminates the need for additional positive reinforcement.

EPS as Filling Element

Expanded polystyrene (EPS) is a raw material derived from petroleum, non-toxic, and 100% recyclable. Lightweight and durable, it gives rise to more economical, safe, easily handled products, with the possibility of customized production according to the needs of each project.

It is used without a structural function to impart the ribbed shape to slabs, without a significant increase in weight to the structure. The fillings also add geometric variability to the slabs, enabling mainly the alteration of models in a unidirectional or bidirectional manner, as well as changes in the spacing and final height of the slab.

Tuper offers EPS solutions in accordance with NBR 11752. The type of filling material used depends on the need and final height of the slab, usually provided in T1F, T2F, and T3F densities.

Advantages – 10 reasons to choose Tuper Ribbed Composite Slabs

  1. Represents 20% of the weight of traditional precast truss joists.
  2. Enables the execution of uni and bidirectional slabs.
  3. Reduces more than 40% of labor in slab assembly.
  4. 30% lighter than solid slabs.
  5. Optimizes space in the construction site storage.
  6. Practical and quick assembly process.
  7. Identical serial manufacturing, avoiding on-site cutting – delivery as per schedule.
  8. Saves on shoring usage.
  9. Easy passage for ducts and installations.
  10. Available in structural design software.

The application can be carried out in all construction systems: reinforced concrete, steel structure, precast structure, structural masonry, as well as in monolithic panel and Insulating Concrete Forms (ICF) construction models.

In addition, Tuper exclusively offers the hanging pin. It is a support clamp in a monoblock structure. This hook has a snap fit on structural profiles embedded in slabs and is traversed by support cables for cladding and accessories in general.

Thus, it enables, in an extremely practical and secure manner, the optimization of the set of manual procedures. Each pin has a tensile strength of 35 kg.
